On Windows systems Mozy relies on a number of services to properly backup files. Updates from third-party software can change these settings. Use the following steps to check/resolve issues with the Windows services.
-
Open the Start Menu and click on Run (In Windows 7/Vista just type into the search bar instead)
Note: Different versions of Windows may display the names of these services slightly differently
-
Type services.msc and press Enter.
-
This should bring up the Services window. Check the following services to make sure that they can be Started and that they are not Disabled. Right-click on any that are blank under Status and select Start. Double-click any that show Disabled and change them to Manual, except for the Mozy service which should be Automatic.
-
COM+ Event System
-
COM+ System Application
-
MS(Microsoft) Software Shadow Copy Provider
-
MozyHome/MozyPro Backup Service
-
Volume Shadow Copy
-
Distributed Transaction Coordinator
If after doing this the Start Backup button in the Mozy Status window is grayed out, stop the MozyHome/MozyPro Backup Service (this will prompt an error stating the service could not be stopped; ignore it) then start it again.
