Suspend Backups:

Suspending backups prevents the automatic or scheduled backups from running, but the Backup process that scans your files for changes, is still running. To suspend the backup do the following:

  1. Click on the Mozy icon in the menubar, and select Open Mozy Preferences

If the Mozy icon isn't present then click on the Apple menu and launch System Preferences then Mozy under the Other category.

  1. Click on the On/Off switch on the left hand side to Off.
  2. When you want automatic/scheduled backups to continue click on the On/Off switch to On.

Stop the Backup Service:

Mozy is designed to have its Backup process running in the background constantly and persistently to perform such functions as tracking changes to back up file selection. While it is not recommended due to the possibility of problems and back up corruption, in rare circumstances there may be a need for the Mozy Backup process to be terminated for a time, typically as part of the troubleshooting process. To turn off the Mozy backup service please do the following:

  1. In the Finder, go to /Library/LaunchDaemons/ and locate the .plist file with the Mozy name in it, such as com.mozy.backup.plist.
  2. Launch the Terminal application.

Location: Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app

  1. Copy and paste the following command, then press Enter (replace com.mozy.backup.plist with the name of the file from /Library/LaunchDaemons if different):

sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.mozy.backup.plist

  1. After pressing Enter, you'll have to type your Mac's login password. You will not see anything while you type, this is normal. Just type your password then press Enter.
  2. The Mozy Backup service is has now been stopped and will not start up again unless you manually start it, or reboot the machine.

Start the Mozy Backup Service:

To start up the service you can either reboot your machine, or do the following:

  1. In the Finder, go to /Library/LaunchDaemons/ and locate the .plist file with the Mozy name in it, such as com.mozy.backup.plist
  2. Launch the Terminal application.

Location: Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app

  1. Copy and paste the following command, then press Enter (replace com.mozy.backup.plist with the name of the file from /Library/LaunchDaemons if different):

sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.mozy.backup.plist

  1. After pressing Enter you'll have to type your Mac's login password. You will not see anything while you type, this is normal. Just type your password and press Enter.

Restart the Mozy Backup process:

Sometimes for troubleshooting purposes, you may need to restart the Mozy Backup process. Please do the following to restart Mozy.

  1. Launch Activity Monitor, and navigate to Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app.
  2. Click on the Show pull down menu (top right hand side of the window) and select All Processes.
  3. In the filter/search field (top right side of the window) begin typing Mozy.
  4. Locate Mozy Backup process (the User will be root) and select it.
  5. Click on the Quit Process button (stop sign) and then click on the Force Quit button that follows.
  6. Type in your Mac's login password.

Note: Since the MozyBackup process is a daemon it will automatically launch immediately after you quit the process.
